Common questions

Do I need a Google account?

No. Choose “Use on this device” and work without signing in. Sign in with Google when you want two-way sync with Google Tasks (that data stays in Google Tasks, so it can also show wherever Google surfaces Tasks, for example Calendar and Gmail).

What does ETasks sync with Google?

For Google-connected lists: task lists, tasks, subtasks, titles, notes, due dates, completion, list order, and favorite/reminder/alarm metadata encoded in notes markers. Notification and AlarmKit delivery happen only in ETasks (and compatible clients). List colors/layouts sync via iCloud on your Apple devices. Shared lists are never pushed to Google; see below.

Why don’t my reminder alarms fire in Google’s apps?

Due dates sync to Google Tasks. Reminder and alarm times can travel with the task as ETasks markers in notes (on Google-synced lists), but the alerts themselves ring only in ETasks on your Apple devices, not as Google Calendar/Gmail notifications.

Sync seems stuck or incomplete

Open the sync / account area in the app and try Sync Now. Check that you’re online and that Google Account permissions still include ETasks. If you recently switched Google accounts, confirm you’re on the intended account. Still stuck? Email us with a short description of what didn’t update.

How do shared lists work?

Shared lists collaborate through ETasks and iCloud (CloudKit), not Google’s sharing. Collaborators need ETasks and your invite link. If a list was on Google Tasks, sharing moves it off Google (your tasks stay on your devices and sync with members over iCloud). Shared lists cannot stay on Google Tasks at the same time. Reminders, alarms, and attachments on shared tasks are personal to each person.

Can I use ETasks offline?

Yes for day-to-day editing: changes queue and sync when you’re back online if Google is connected. Local mode does not need Google. Shared-list collaboration and some AI features need network / iCloud when you use those capabilities.

How do I disconnect Google or delete data?

Sign out or disconnect in the app. You can revoke access anytime at Google Account permissions. Uninstalling removes the app from the device; see the Privacy Policy for what is stored where.

Alarms and notifications

Allow notifications (and AlarmKit / alarm permission when prompted) in iOS Settings. Alarms are designed to ring more insistently than standard reminders. If something isn’t firing, check Focus modes and permission toggles for ETasks.

Import / export

Use the app’s JSON backup and import for your task lists. Ideal before switching devices or for an extra safety copy.
